The city of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) won three categories at the 32nd edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA) for South America, considered the biggest award in the global tourism sector and known as the “Tourism Oscars,” on Tuesday (30).
The capital of Rio de Janeiro received the titles of: Best Beach Destination; Best City Break Destination (short trip to a city); and Best Events and Festivals Destination.
The WTA also recognized “The Penthouse” at the Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro (RJ) as the Best Hotel Room in South America. In this category, the Tivoli Ecoresort (Praia do Forte, Bahia) was also awarded Best Beach Resort, and the Clara Arte Resort (Inhotim, Minas Gerais) was awarded Best Family Resort.
The cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói will host members of the Panam Sports Evaluation Commission, the highest Olympic sports authority in the Americas, until Friday, October 3, who are conducting a technical visit to evaluate the two cities’ bids for the 2031 Pan American Games.
