The Evaluation Commission of Panam Sports, the highest authority for Olympic sports in the Americas, began its technical evaluation visit on Wednesday, October 1st, to assess the bid by Rio de Janeiro and Niterói to host the 2031 Pan American Games.

The host city will be chosen on the 10th in Santiago, Chile. The Rio-Niterói bid is competing with that of Asunción (Paraguay).

Until Friday, October 3rd, the delegation will visit the main sports facilities in the five competition zones planned for the Games. Wednesday’s schedule began at the Barra Olympic Park, which has 11 facilities already completed and is expected to host 18 sports, through the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre, followed by the Isabel Salgado Olympic Educational Gymnasium, the Rio Olympic Museum, the Olympic Velodrome, Arena Carioca 1, and the Olympic Arena (Farmasi Arena).

The members of Panam Sports also traveled by BRT to Jardim Oceânico Station, one of the main urban legacies left by the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Five Panam Sports officials are part of the delegation. In addition to President Neven Ilic and Secretary General Jimena Saldaña, the commission includes three presidents of Olympic Committees from member countries: Mario Moccia (Argentina), Dennis Knight (Saint Kitts and Nevis), and Sara Rosario (Puerto Rico).

“It is an honor for Panam Sports to be here in Rio de Janeiro and Niterói, a great joy. The idea behind this visit is to reconfirm all the proposals that Rio and Niterói presented in their bid dossier,” said Illic.

Accompanying the visit are the President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), Marco La Porta, and the mayors of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, and Niterói, Rodrigo Neves.
